About this concept

Seedlark Commons is a concept website made by Tideframe Digital. The garden and the collective do not exist.

What is real and what is not

The garden, its programs, plots, events and stories are invented. Nothing can be booked, adopted, joined or paid for. Every form on the site is a demonstration that checks your answers on the page and then stops.

What is demo-only

  • Events calendar: dates are examples, and the RSVP form holds no spot
  • Garden plots: statuses are illustrative and the waitlist adds you to nothing
  • Volunteer sign-up: nothing is sent and nobody will contact you
  • Donations: amounts are illustrative, nothing is charged and no card details are ever asked for
  • Contact form: messages go nowhere

How it is built

WordPress with the GeneratePress theme and a custom child theme. Events, plots and programs are custom content types with Advanced Custom Fields forms, so a garden volunteer could update them without touching code. The type is Caprasimo for headings and Atkinson Hyperlegible Next and Mono for reading, all hosted on this site. Tideframe Digital builds sites like this: see the studio’s work.

The risograph look

The two-colour print effect is done in the browser with CSS blend modes. Photos are shown as one ink with a shape overprinted in the other, the way a risograph prints one colour at a time. Fluorescent pink and garden green are used only as fills and shapes, never for text, because neither has enough contrast against the paper colour.

About the photos

Photos are free images from Unsplash. They are not photos of a real garden or of anyone involved with one, and nobody in them is a member, volunteer or visitor of Seedlark Commons.
